My current research activities center around the role of membrane proteins cellular growth and tissue differentiation. The milk fat globule membrane is used as a model for these studies. Cell and tissue culture, cell separation, immunocytochemistry, monoclonal antibody production, radioisotope spectrometry, thin layer and column chromatography of steroids and proteins, autoradiography of steroids, differential and sucrose density gradient centrifugation, radioimmunoassay, polyclonal antibody preparation and purification, acrylamide electrophoresis of proteins, extraction and purification of DNA from cells, digestion with restriction enzymes, ligating of vectors and foreign DNA, transformation of procaryotic and eucaryotic cells, analysis of recombinant clones, PCR, DNA sequencing, production of genomic DNA libraries and expression of inserted genes in eucaryotic cells, and general analytical instrumentation involved in immunology, microbiology, physiology and biochemistry and competitive hormone binding assays, light and electron microscopy.
Surgical procedures are utilized such as blood vessel cannulation, hysterectomy, ovariectomy and liver and mammary gland biopsy.
Electromagnetic, ultrasound and laser-doppler methods have been used to measure blood flow in dairy cattle in response to various physiological, pathophysiological and pharmaco-logical stimuli. Computerized data acquisition systems are employed with these systems.
