Patricia Thonney provides leadership for 4-H Youth Development in
DNS. Thonney has received state and national awards for her work
in curriculum development since joining the faculty in 1977. She
served a 2-year term on the Healthy Lifestyle Education National
4-H Curriculum Jury team. Current efforts focus on developing
teaching, training, and evaluation tools for Cooking Up Fun!, an
integrated nutrition, youth development program to help youth ages
9 to 15 gain food skills. Emphasis is on reaching low income
families in informal settings such as school-age child care
programs and 4-H clubs. In addition, Cooking Together for Family
Meals, a model for working with families, is being developed in
collaboration with nutrition staff in the FNEC Finger Lakes region.
