Abstract
Presentation of work on farmland change in metropolitan and non-metropolitan counties to policy makers and researchers at a USDA/ERS briefing conference. Conference was attended by staff of various non-governmental community development people.
Issue
The issues being addressed include the extent of farmland loss, the reasons for the loss, the influence of commodity support programs and export programs on the rates of change.
Response
We conducted an analysis of change in farms, total farmland, population, and support programs for the past 50 years for counties in the coterminous US.
